ABOUT

Jihene Ba Slimani is a Franco-Algerian choreographer, filmmaker, curator, and teacher who has been exploring the intersections of dance, cinema, and spirituality for over twenty years.

Her work centers on the representation of women, underground cultures, and collective creation, while drawing inspiration from quantum physics, psychology, and ancient arts to invent new tools of transmission and creation.

She studied Information and Communication and earned a Master’s in International Artistic Cooperation at Paris VIII University.

She later trained in directing at the Kourtrajmé Film School (2020–2021 & 2024–2025) and became a Reiki Master in 2025.

Founder of UDP – Underground Dance Providers, Ladies At Work, and part of Nefer Global Movement (2019-2024), she launched Bastet Festival in 2019, dedicated to club culture and visual arts, and Studio Mintaka in 2024, a creation and production platform for dance and film.

As a performer and choreographer, she has taken part in major productions such as Les Indes Galantes (Opéra de Paris, 2020), and created her first solo piece MANAZIL. She also choreographed for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (AMC, Season 1 & 2).

She is a prize-winning battle dancer (Juste Debout St-Brieuc 2008, Juste Debout Lithuania 2018, Street Star Battle finalist 2024, Ladies Of Hip Hop Finalist 2023) and a frequent jury member in international competitions.

As a filmmaker, she directed Dreams and Tears (Best Dance Short Film, Canal 93, 2021), Vices Versa (Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, 2024), music films such as Constellation, and the upcoming series Les Auracles.

She has collaborated with Vice, Emmanuelle Béart, Alexis Manenti, Ladj Ly, and created films and campaigns for Jordan x Nike x Footlocker, Vice, Fusion Concept Festival, and artists such as Oswela, LASS, and Ka(ra)Mi.

Since 2016, Jihene has been teaching house dance at the Juste Debout School, and workshops worldwide.

Trilingual in French, English, and Arabic, she collaborates with international artists (Clara Bajado, Toyin Sogunro, Nubian Néné, Tatiana Desardouin, Niki Awandee, Blue Nefertiti, among others) and works other platforms such as Indahouse (UK),Ladies of Hip Hop (NYC), and Waack Bazaar (NYC).
  • JIHENE is currently working on the creation “Dance of the Auras” which is a constellation of projects developped through a piece, a series and a method of transmission.

    Jihene slimani contributes through her numerous works and initiatives to highlighting underground cultures and representations of women.
